Hurricane Beryl forecast and track: Jamaica's prime minister declares island 'disaster area' ahead of storm
As Hurricane Beryl barrels toward Jamaica as a Category 4 storm, the country's Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, pre-emptively declared the entire island a disaster area in an address to the public. A storm surge up to 9 feet is expected as the storm moves northwest toward landfall on the island's southern shore. Wind gusts are expected to near 130 mph as the storm nears the island midday Wednesday.

2-year-old found stuck in cabin ceiling after severe turbulence on Air Europa flight, mother says
Dr. Cecilia Laguzzi was sleeping while on an overnight flight home to Uruguay when the mother of two said she was woken up by severe turbulence and found her 2-year-old son stuck in the ceiling above the overhead compartment. "It was an image I will never forget," Laguzzi told "Good Morning America" following the incident on the Air Europa flight, which the airline said resulted in several passengers being hurtled toward the ceiling of the cabin. The flight from Madrid to Montevideo, Uruguay, experienced "heavy" turbulence early Monday morning and was diverted to Brazil "due to the nature of the turbulence and for safety reasons," the airline said.

3 firefighters injured battling Thompson wildfire in California, Cal Fire says
Three firefighters sustained heat-related injuries while battling the Thompson Fire in Butte County, California, as red flag conditions persist in the area, according to Cal Fire. The state on Tuesday secured federal assistance to support the response to the fire, Gov. Gavin Newsom said. "We're working proactively to bring in additional funding to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the fire burning in Butte County," he said in a statement.

With Donald Trump's sentencing in his New York hush money case delayed until September following Tuesday's decision by Judge Juan Merchan, the judge now faces the task of applying the Supreme Court's new test for the limits of presidential immunity to the former president's criminal conviction. Trump in May was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a 2016 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in order to boost his electoral prospects in the 2016 presidential election. Trump's lawyers have argued that the judge should "set aside" the jury's verdict in the case because the jury heard evidence during the trial that would have been protected by presidential immunity, based on Monday's ruling by the Supreme Court that Trump is entitled to "at least presumptive immunity" from criminal prosecution for official acts taken while in office.

Parenting influencers speak out as new law designed to protect kids featured on social media goes into effect
A first-of-its-kind law that requires influencers who feature their children to pay them for their work is now in effect in Illinois. The bill, which went into effect on July 1, amends the state's Child Labor Law to include children who are featured on their parents' or caregivers' social media. More specifically, it requires that children age 16 and under be compensated if, within a 30-day period, they are in at least 30% of a video or online content for which the adult, whether a parent or caregiver, is being paid.

12-year-old child missing after being attacked and taken by crocodile: Report
Police in Australia have launched a search near a remote community for a missing 12-year-old child after reports that they were attacked and taken by a crocodile while swimming in a creek. The incident took place on Tuesday evening at about 5:30 p.m. local time in the remote community of Palumpa -- approximately a seven-hour drive southwest of Darwin with a population of about 400 people -- in Australia’s Northern Territory, according to the Northern Territory Police, Fire & Emergency services in a statement released on Wednesday. “Local officers are on scene and our thoughts are with the family and the community,” said Senior Sgt. Erica Gibson.

Biden said Tuesday he was sorry for his debate performance but stressed that winning the election was "critical."
